The incident occurred in a town in  Brussels when four people played Monopoly on a sidewalk around 5 a.m. last week. According to the Jerusalem Post, the group was loud to the point where their neighbors woke up and went outside to ask them to leave. However, things escalated between the group and the father-son duo, leading the son to bring out a katana sword to defend himself.

One of the players and the son were hospitalized after the fight. Investigators said the son struck an artery and remained in critical condition. Both men were arrested for the fight, and the player was immediately taken into police custody.

Twitter reacts to the case and says they don’t blame the men for fighting each other over Monopoly.

The infamous board game is known to stir emotions as it can be hours long, and people use their own strategies to purchase properties. After the case went viral on Twitter, some users said they understood the player’s frustration when the game was interrupted.

Monopoly can make people angry for several reasons:

  1. Unfair advantage: In a monopoly game, one player can acquire a significant advantage by purchasing properties earlier or landing on lucky squares. This can make the game feel unfair and frustrating for the other players.
  2. Long duration: Monopoly is a game that can take a long time to complete, sometimes hours. Players can become fatigued or bored, leading to impatience and irritability.
  3. High stakes: Monopoly can involve large amounts of fake money, leading players to become overly competitive and invested in the game’s outcome. This can cause players to take the game more seriously than they should and become angry when things don’t go their way.
  4. Personal attachment: People can develop a personal attachment to their game pieces or properties, and when they lose them, it can feel like a personal defeat. This can lead to anger and frustration.

Overall, Monopoly is a game that can elicit a strong emotional response from players, both positive and negative. It is important to remember that it is just a game and not to take it too seriously.
