The incident took place at the Nichupte Lagoon around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday where the couple and their guests were excited about the reveal of a baby girl. Before the crash, the Cessna 206, a single-engine plane,  performed several tricks and stunts as the expecting couple and their close loved ones watched from a boat.

Moments after, the plane took a sharp nosedive towards the water and crashed into the lagoon. Authorities said the plane took off from the city of Holbox and carried between two to four passengers. One of the passengers died during the rescue and another died while receiving treatment from a first responder as reported by the New York Post.

The plane was rented from a company called Xomex and an investigation has been launched by the Federal Civil Aviation Agency in the aftermath of the crash. However, this is not the first time a gender reveal has led to a tragic end. Several weeks ago, a man was killed by a cannon during a baby shower and a firefighter died last year while putting out a fire that was caused by gender reveal party.
