Two Florida Men Arrested After Impersonating U.S. Marshals To Avoid Wearing Masks

Two Florida men — identified as Walter Wayne Brown Jr., 53, (above right) and Gary Brummett, 81 (above left)– have been arrested after allegedly impersonating U.S. Marshals in order to avoid wearing masks while staying at the Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort.

The incident occurred on February 11 when Brummett went to ask for coffee. The men were asked by hotel staff to put on masks, but they refused. They claimed they were U.S. Marshals and pulled out phony passes, similar to ones that exempt real U.S. Marshals Service officials, or those from the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service, from any mask-wearing requirement.

The two men even went as far as threatening to arrest employees and hit the hotel with a hefty fine if they continued to force the mandate on them. Of all employees, one called out their bluff, noticed they were acting suspicious and called the police. The men were finally busted as local law enforcement and one real marshal arrived to arrest them, charging them with impersonating a federal officer. The men are currently in jail awaiting bond hearings.
