According to Variety, Twitter restricted the ability of Trump Jr. to tweet for a 12-hour period after he posted a video spreading misinformation about the effects of hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19. Per the outlet, the social network forced Trump Jr. to delete the tweet with the video, which violated Twitter’s rules about sharing harmful info related to the coronavirus pandemic.
A screenshot showed a notification that said Twitter temporarily limited some of his account features. An official Twitter account then explained: “This account has not been permanently suspended. Per the screenshot, the Tweet requires deletion because it violates our rules (sharing misinformation on COVID-19), and the account will have limited functionality for 12 hours.“
The video, which was published by media outlet Breitbart News and went viral online on Monday, showed a group of doctors making false and dubious claims related to coronavirus, including that masks are unnecessary. President Donald Trump also retweeted multiple versions of the video on Twitter, but did not upload a version of the video to the site.
Trump’s Jr. has not publicly commented on his suspension because he can’t. But we’re sure he will very soon.
