After laying low following the Astroworld tragedy, Travis Scott is slowly making a comeback. He recently performed at the Billboard Music Awards and a Miami nightclub, and now he’s giving back with a seven-figure donation.
According to TMZ, Travis Scott has donated $1 million in scholarships. It will go to 100 students who are enrolled at HBCUs across the country and are on track to graduate this year. The soon-to-be grads are each getting a $10,000 scholarship from Travis’ previously-established Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund and the recipients finished their final semester with at least a 3.5 GPA. Travis wanted to ensure they cross the finish line and aren’t affected by last-minute financial hurdles.
The scholarships were handed out to seniors at 38 schools which include Alabama A&M University, Central State University, Grambling State University, Jackson State University, Morehouse College, Texas Southern University, and more. The $1 million in scholarships are also a part of Travis’ Project HEAL initiative which he launched in March with a $5 million donation to community-based programs. Scott said in a statement, “Excellence abounds in every Black household, but too often opportunity does not – and Black students are left behind or counted out. So that’s what my family and I set out to change. We congratulate all 100 scholarship recipients this year. I know we will see great things from them – and we are already looking forward to increasing our work next year.”

His sister, Jordan Webster—who severs as a project manager—graduated from Howard University this semester and said her brother’s contribution “means the world” to the students who’ve been awarded:
“I know personally how deeply important my grandfather’s academic legacy at HBCUs is to my entire family—to Travis, as well as my twin brother Josh who is at Prairie View A&M University—and now, to 100 people that Travis has been able to help out at a tough time,” she shared in the same release. “It means the world to me to be able to work with my brother as he creates hope and makes a real difference for our peers and their families.”
Where has Travis Scott Been?
Travis had been keeping a relatively low profile since 10 people died during his Astroworld performance in November. As we previously reported, on Nov. 5, 2021, a crowd surge killed those festival goers and injured hundreds at NRG Park in Houston. Travis was accused of ignoring the crowd who was pleading for help. However, Travis said he was not aware of the severity of the crowd surge, and in December he suggested that the media were unfairly pinning the blame on him in his first sit-down interview since Astroworld.
Travis Scott is facing one giant lawsuit made up of nearly 400 individually filed cases from victims seeking billions of dollars in damages.
