The family of 9-year-old Ezra Blount, the youngest victim of Travis Scott‘s Astroworld Festival tragedy, has settled their lawsuit against the rapper, and other companies like Live Nation (the festival’s promoter and the world’s largest live entertainment company), and Apple, Inc. (which live-streamed the festival).

In 2021, Ezra Blount, who is a Dallas, Texas native, was the youngest victim to perish at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival in Houston. In addition to Ezra Blount, nine other people lost their lives as a result of being crushed and/or stampeded at the festival, with hundreds more left injured. The other deaths included victims aged 14 to 27, however, Ezra Blount was the youngest at just 9 years old.

It’s now reported that the family of Ezra Blount has now settled their lawsuit against rapper Travis Scott, along with other defendants, like Live Nation and Apple, Inc. Earlier this month, the families of the other nine victims killed in the crowd surge settled their wrongful death lawsuits. Terms of the settlements are confidential and attorneys for all have reportedly declined to comment due to gag orders placed.

Before the settlement news, Travis Scott attempted to request a dismissal from the Astroworld Festival lawsuits, arguing that the crowd safety was not his responsibility. However, a judge ordered that the rapper must face a jury trial over the cases. A trial date for Ezra Blount’s family’s lawsuit was set for September 10, but attorney S. Scott West confirmed this week that a settlement was reached.

In this case, it’s reported that on November 5, 2021, Ezra went to see his favorite rapper with his father, Treston Blount. During the crowd surge at the Astroworld Festival, Ezra and his father got caught in the chaos. Treston passed out but survived, however, his son Ezra was trampled and died after spending several days in a coma.

In 2021, following the Astroworld Festival tragedy, Bob Hilliard, the attorney for Ezra Blount’s family, shared a heartbreaking letter to Travis Scott’s lawyers. In the letter, obtained by Rolling Stone, Hilliard called the child’s death “a faucet of unimaginable that has no off handle.”

Hilliard also wrote, “To lose a child in the manner Treston lost Ezra compounds the pain. As a parent, Treston cannot help but agonize over the terrible idea that Ezra’s last minutes were filled with terror, suffering, suffocation, and worst of all surrounded by strangers, his dad unconscious underneath the uncontrolled crowd.”
