Jeffrey Piccolo has filed a wrongful death lawsuit following the death of his wife, Dr. Kanokporn Tangsuan after she ate a meal at Disney World’s Raglan Road Irish Pub. The meal was promised to be free from allergens and allegedly contained dairy and nuts.

Dr. Tangsuan, a physician at NYU Langone Hospital, was dining with her husband and his mother on October 5 at the restaurant located in Disney Springs. The lawsuit claims that Dr. Tangsuan had informed the waiter of her severe allergies to dairy and nuts, seeking assurance that the menu items could be prepared without these allergens. Despite assurances from the staff that Disney and Raglan Road could accommodate special dietary needs, the meal served to Dr. Tangsuan reportedly did not meet these safety standards.
According to PEOPLE, the meal ordered by Dr. Tangsuan included broccoli and corn fritter, scallops, and onion rings. The couple continued to have concerns about the meal when it was served by the waiter and hoped the food was cooked without any issues. Yet, the waiter reassured the couple of the meal’s safety. Tragically, within 45 minutes of consuming her meal, Dr. Tangsuan experienced a severe allergic reaction while shopping alone. Despite administering her EpiPen and efforts to seek medical help, she collapsed and was later pronounced dead at a hospital. The lawsuit claims her death was due to anaphylactic shock triggered by the presence of dairy and nut residues in her system.

Piccolo’s lawsuit seeks $50,000 in damages from the restaurant and Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Inc., citing violations under Florida’s wrongful death act. The compensation is aimed at covering mental anguish, lost income, and medical and funeral expenses incurred due to this tragic event. The legal action criticizes Disney’s failure to properly train its staff in handling food allergen requests effectively.
Disney has not responded to the allegations. However, Piccolo’s attorney, Brian Denney, emphasized the importance of the lawsuit in raising awareness about the seriousness of food allergies and preventing similar incidents.
