Tracee Ellis Ross is opening up about her minimalist travel habits, admitting how she only packs “two undies” while traveling and cleans her underwear in a sink with soap and shower gel.

While speaking at the 2025 Travel + Leisure Annual World’s Best Summit in New York on Tuesday (July 15), the ‘Black-ish’ star made her confession. The actress — who is executive producing and starring in a new travel show on Roku, which premieres on July 25 and is called ‘Solo Traveling with Tracee Ellis Ross‘ — revealed she only ever packs two pairs of underwear in her suitcase while preparing for vacation.
During her on-stage interview with Travel + Leisure Editor-in-Chief Jacqui Gifford, Tracee Ellis Ross said, “There’s always one bathing suit, a flip flop and one little dress I can roll up. And there’s always two undies.”

After Tracee Ellis Ross’ shocking admission, Gifford followed up with a question that everyone wanted to know. She asked, “Two undies, that’s it?” The 52-year-old actress explained exactly how she does it. She said she will often use hotel sinks to wash her undies with a bar of soap or shower gel.
Ross then uses another sink to rinse off the soap. Finally, she will hang up her undergarments on a towel rack to dry. She added, “If I’m gone for a month on this trip, you can’t pack a month’s worth of underwear. How do you do that? They take up a lot of space.”

Tracee Ellis Ross Talks Importance Of Traveling Solo And Spending Time With Yourself
As mentioned, Tracee Ellis Ross made shared her confession during Travel + Leisure‘s annual World’s Best Summit. The event was held in New York on July 15 and July 16. The summit celebrates the top trends successfully influencing the travel industry.
Before her appearance at the summit, Ross made the cover of Travel + Leisure‘s “The Best in Class” issue in 2023. At the time, she spoke about the importance of traveling solo and spending time with one’s self. She said:
“Start by going to dinner by yourself on a Friday night. See if you can do that. And you might not be a person who can do that. You might say, ‘I’m not doing that ever again.’ Then you’re not somebody who can go on vacation by yourself.”
