As we previously reported, Tory Lanez was finally sentenced on Tuesday for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. He received a 10-year sentence without the possibility of parole after he was convicted of felony assault for the shooting incident in July 2020.

Jose Baez, Lanez’s attorney, recently spoke with TMZ to share how the entertainer has coping with his new reality. The defense attorney said his client is feeling “pretty low” as he truly believed the system would do right by him. Although he’s having a hard time processing the lengthy sentence, Tory’s made it clear to him that he’s going to remain strong and lean to God for strength. Mr. Baez says Tory is also leaning on the support of his friends/family and his loyal fans.

So how does Tory plan to navigate fatherhood with his young son from behind bars? Baez wouldn’t leave a comment on that to TMZ but shared that the legal team’s focus is more so on the upcoming appeal.

More On Tory Lanez’s Case

Lanez, 31, was convicted on Dec. 23, 2022, for shooting and injuring the hip-hop star, whose legal name is Megan Pete. He was initially set to be sentenced in January but the sentencing had been delayed several times after Lanez obtained new attorneys and filed a motion for a new trial. The request for a new trial was denied in May.

For years he maintained he was innocent and did not shoot Megan Thee Stallion. However, it wasn’t until Tuesday during his sentencing hearing he finally owned up to his wrongdoings. He even spoke on Meg and called her his “friend.”

“If I could change it, I would, but I can’t,” Tory said. “Everything I did that night, I take full responsibility,” he’s quoted saying by court journalist Meghann Cuniff Lanez. “I truly am just trying to be a better person.” He said he still “cares about Megan [Thee Stallion” and called her “someone I still care for dearly to this day” regardless of what she may think of him.

“We both lost our mothers. We would sit there and drink, and drink until we got numb,” shared Lanez.“I said some very immature things that I shouldn’t have said.”

Meg provided a pre-written impact statement during the hearing it read: “He not only shot me, he made a mockery of my trauma. He tried to position himself as a victim and set out to destroy my character and my soul. He lied to anyone that would listen and paid bloggers to disseminate false information about the case on social media. He released music videos and songs to damage my character and continue his crusade,” Pete’s statement said. “I beg this court to send a message to every victim of violence and fully hold the defendant accountable for his criminal conduct,” she said before he received his lengthy sentence. “This is a statement for all survivors that their lives matter and there is zero tolerance for the torture that accompanies violence,” she added.
