As we previously reported, Lanez was found guilty in December 2022 of three felonies in the shooting which left Megan Thee Stallion wounded with bullet fragments in her feet. Four months after the conviction, Lanez spoke out for the first time behind bars. He said at the time,

“Today I take a stance as an innocent Black man, wrongfully convicted of a crime I did not commit,” Lanez said in an Instagram post in April that was addressed to Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón. He claimed in the audio that “completely robbed and deprived of a fair trial.”

“… So, Mr. Gascón, I come to you today as a wrongfully convicted Black man, not asking for sympathy, nor compassion, but for you to simply do what is fair and right in the laws of California, and most importantly in the eyes of God.”

Lanez was initially set to be sentenced in January. The sentencing has been delayed several times after Lanez obtained new attorneys and filed a motion for a new trial. Defense attorneys had asked for the postponement to give them additional time to file a sentencing memorandum. Superior Court Judge David Herriford later reset the sentencing for Aug. 7.

More On What Happened To Megan Thee Stallion During The 2020 Shooting

It all began on 12 July 2020, with a small pool party at Kylie Jenner’s mansion in the Hollywood Hills. Megan Thee Stallion, whose legal name is Megan Pete, arrived at the home a few hours before Lanez. The pair, along with her bff at the time Kelsey Harris and Lanez’s security guard, left in a Black SUV to drop Megan Thee Stallion and Harris off at the rental home where they were staying.

While driving, an argument broke out between the musicians. It was said that Lanez’s bodyguard pulled over onto a quiet street in the hills where Megan Thee Stallion exited the vehicle. While walking away from the car, the prosecutors said, Lanez pulled out a handgun and initially started brandishing it before he fired it toward the ground in her direction.

During the trial, George Mgdesyan, Lanez’s defense attorney, argued that Harris was the one who actually shot Megan Thee Stallion after Lanez revealed that he and Megan Thee Stallion had been romantically involved. However, Megan Thee Stallion vehemently denied ever being in a romantic relationship with Lanez, in a high-profile interview with Gayle King. Though, she did testify that the two had been intimate after bonding over their mothers’ deaths.
