Tory Lanez’s sentencing has been delayed for another day and resume Tuesday. (August 8) As we previously reported before the court took a 90 minute break today, it was revealed that 70+ letters were submitted to Judge Herriford of people who are fighting to get Tory a lesser sentence or to be free.

A jail chaplain reportedly wrote a letter and revealed that the rapper started a “daily prayer” in jail that has lessened the tensions between a lot of the inmates. The chaplain that wrote a letter says that Lanez’s prayers have been powerful and he believes the man should be free. Another interesting letter came in to the judge and it was from Iggy Azalea who asked for the judge to impose a sentence “that is transformational and not life destroying.”

Now another update was given by reporters. According to Meghann Cuniff, Megan Thee Stallion was not present for Tory Lanez’s sentencing but she did submit a statement that was read by her attorney during court. In the letter Meg wrote that she struggled with whether to attend in person, and her absence should be seen as her preserving her mental well being. She went on to explain that since Tory Lanez shot her, “I’ve not experienced a single day of peace.”

She added, “He lied to anyone that would listen.” The letter continued to read of her saying, mercy is for people who show remorse and Tory Lanez has shown none. Her statement continued saying, “he not only shot me, he made a mockery of my trauma. He tried to position himself as a victim and set out to destroy my character and my soul. He lied to anyone that would listen and paid bloggers to disseminate false information about the case on social media. He released music videos to damage my character and continue his crusade. At first he tried to deny the shooting ever happened. Then, he attempted to place blame on my former best friend. In his tantrum of lies, he’s blamed the system, blamed the press and, as of late, he’s using his childhood trauma to shield himself and avoid culpability.”

In this case prosecutors are looking to get Lanez to serve at least 13 years for the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion even though Tory and his team are still claiming he’s innocent. Prosecutors filed a memo on June 6 stating that any sentence less than 13 years for Lanez would not only “endanger public safety,” but “not be in the interest of justice,” according to a report from Billboard.

“The defendant actively invited harassment of the victim by spreading misinformation to his large following in an effort to galvanize the public against the victim and even the prosecution team without any regard to the dangers it posed,” prosecutors wrote in the memorandum. “The defendant has weaponized misinformation to his large following to such a degree that it has left a lasting traumatic impact on the victim.”
