Toni Braxton Reveals Heart Attack Led To Her Lupus Diagnosis

While she’s been very transparent about her battle with lupus, seven-time Grammy Award-winning singer Toni Braxton reveals she learned she had the autoimmune disease after suffering a heart attack.

Speaking with ‘E!’s Daily Pop,’ Braxton, 52, recalls the moments leading up to her diagnosis. She explains, “I was still in Vegas, I had a residency in Vegas [from 2006 to 2008] and I was just sick all the time. “

She adds, “Chronically fatigued, my blood pressure was high [and] I never suffered from it. I just couldn’t figure it out and come to find out, I had a heart attack. I had to go to the hospital and that’s when they found out.”

Braxton also shares that remembers telling doctors how she felt as if an elephant was sitting on her chest, and could not talk; which led doctors to run tests, which proved she was having a heart attack.

Additionally, Braxton reveals that her lupus “loves [her] heart, and [her] blood.” She adds, that she has “some stomach lupus, so it can attack any organ in [her] body, it’s not just the skin.”

The 52-year-old singer also says the she has the worse strain of the disease, however there’s a silver lining.
