It looks as if Tom Brady could be gearing up for quite a nasty split from his wife Gisele Bündchen, with sources saying that the supermodel is the one who is currently “steering the divorce.” As previously reported, the pair are believed to have hired divorce lawyers and are looking to move ahead with plans to end their marriage, as one source said Brady and Bündchen had surpassed the point of trying to reconcile their differences with one another.
At this point, the two are solely focused on getting through their divorce, with PEOPLE magazine adding that Brady seems fearful of the proceedings potentially turning “ugly,” because he’d prefer the process to go as “smoothly as possible.” A source explained, “She is playing offense and he is playing defense.”

“He wants to protect himself, protect his interests, but he’s only starting to go the legal route in his defense from her. He doesn’t want this to be ugly, he doesn’t want to fight.” Their individual legal representatives are also said to be going over the couple’s joint assets, which reportedly includes a $26 million real estate portfolio — not to mention that they also share two children together, Benjamin, 12, and Vivian, 9. It remains unclear whether talks of a custodial agreement have been discussed yet.
“Think about it: Tom has had a very charmed life,” an insider continued telling PEOPLE. “Things always seem to go his way. He works hard, he’s a good guy, he hasn’t had a lot of things go wrong in his life. This is awful for him. You can tell that this really, really hurts.”
Over the summer, it was claimed that Bündchen and Brady started living in separate homes following an intense argument that stemmed from the latter’s decision to un-retire himself and return to the NFL in a move that took the Brazilian model by surprise.

Though she did send her well wishes to Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a tweet last month, insiders allege that things have been anything but sweet behind the scenes, as the 42-year-old is alleged to be gearing up for a newfound life without Brady, whom she has been married to since 2009.
Neither of the pair has publicly spoken out about claims pertaining to a potential divorce, but from what sources have said, there’s little to no chance the two will remain together after having hired lawyers to kickstart the process of ending their marriage once and for all.
