Tokyo Olympics Athletes Risk Sanctions If They Raise Fist Or Take A Knee
In addition to the NFL and NBA threatening athletes who protest, those in the Tokyo Olympics will risk sanctions from the IOC if they raise a fist or take a knee at this year’s events.
It’s reported that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will uphold a ban on political protests, including kneeling and raising fists at the Tokyo Games this Summer. The IOC says 70% of 3,500 athletes who they surveyed over the past year said it was “not appropriate to demonstrate or express their views” during competitions and ceremonies.

Subsequent to the survey’s results, the IOC has chosen to keep Rule 50 of the Olympic Charter on the books — which states: “No kind of demonstration or political, religious or racial propaganda is permitted in any Olympic sites, venues or other areas.” As we previously reported, the Summer Olympics are set to begin on July 23, after being delayed a year due to the coronavirus pandemic. #Socialites, thoughts?
