US Officials reportedly covered up an incident where a submarine crashed into the wreckage of the Titanic.
According to the Telegraph, a $35million submarine, which was hired by a British adventure company, smashed into the historic liner last July.
According to legal documents, the pilot of the high-tech Triton lost control due to the “intense and highly unpredictable currents” and crashed into the ship.
The trip was one of the first in fifteen years and made headlines because investigators revealed that the famous captain’s bathtub had vanished inside the deteriorating ship.
The expedition leader Rob McCallum also confessed to crashing into the wreck.
“We did accidentally make contact with the Titanic once while we were near the starboard hull breach, a big piece of the hull that sticks out. Afterwards we observed a red rust stain on the side of the sub,” he said. “But the submersible is covered in white fibre glass and is very delicate and expensive. While underwater it’s essentially weightless – it’s not a battering ram.”
The new revelation comes in the middle of a court battle that will decide the future of the wreck.
