On Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris announced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her vice presidential running mate for the upcoming election. She shared the news on social media, officially selecting the Midwestern Democrat to join her in the November race.
In a post on X, Walz expressed his excitement, stating, “It is the honor of a lifetime to join @kamalaharris in this campaign.” He added, “I’m all in. Vice President Harris is showing us the politics of what’s possible. It reminds me a bit of the first day of school. So, let’s get this done, folks! Join us.”
While many have welcomed this decision, there are critics as well. Donald Trump, confident in his bid for the 2024 presidential election, released a statement through his campaign team that targeted Walz. Karoline Leavitt, Trump Campaign Press Secretary, stated:
“It’s no surprise that San Francisco liberal Kamala Harris wants West Coast wannabe Tim Walz as her running mate. Walz has spent his governorship trying to reshape Minnesota in the image of the Golden State. While he pretends to support Americans in the Heartland, behind the scenes, he believes that rural America is ‘mostly cows and rocks.’ From proposing his own carbon-free agenda to suggesting stricter emission standards for gas-powered cars and embracing policies that allow convicted felons to vote, Walz is obsessed with spreading California’s dangerously liberal agenda. If Walz won’t tell voters the truth, we will: just like Kamala Harris, Tim Walz is a dangerously liberal extremist, and the Harris-Walz California dream is every American’s nightmare.”

Meanwhile, in Harris’ announcement, she expressed her enthusiasm for having Walz on her team, saying, “I am proud to announce that I’ve asked @timwalz to be my running mate. We are going to build a great partnership. We are going to build a great team. We are going to win this election.”
Former President Barack Obama also voiced his support, stating, “Like Vice President Harris, Governor @Tim_Walz believes that government works to serve us. Not just some of us, but all of us. That’s what makes him an outstanding governor, and that’s what will make him an even better vice president. Michelle and I couldn’t be happier for Tim and Gwen, their family, and our country.”
