Tim Scott, who happens to be the only GOP Senator in America, is promising to finish Donald Trump‘s border wall if he is elected President in the 2024 presidential race.
On April 12, 2023, Scott — who became the first African-American senator to be elected from the Southern United States since the Reconstruction era — formed an exploratory committee to enter the 2024 Republican Party presidential primaries.
Since announcing his candidacy, the South Carolina Senator made a promise, claiming if he were elected as president, he’d continue closing up the U.S.-Mexico border. Last Friday (August 4), Scott spoke with Fox News’ ‘America’s Newsroom‘ while standing at the border, and addressed the “illegal border crossings seeing a spike in July.”

While recalling his 2019 visit to now, he compared how things have changed, and said, “The biggest difference between 2019 and now is two words: Joe Biden. When you have a president who unleashes an unopened, wide open, unsafe, insecure border, we cannot be surprised by more than six million illegal crossings. However, the devastation of 70,000 Americans who lost their lives to fentanyl, because Joe Biden refuses to close our Southern border, preventable.”
Scott went on to make his promise about finishing Donald Trump’s border wall if elected as president. He affirmed, “As president of the United States, I will finish this wall, and I will use the available technology to surveil our border to stop fentanyl from killing another 70,000 Americans in the next 12 months.”

Fox News host Dana Perino mentioned findings about illegal crossings spiking in July. She said, At the Southwest border, there were 99,545 arrests in June versus more than 130,000 arrests in July. She asked Scott what do the people down on the ground have to say about the uptick, while the Biden administration affirms they’ve been successfully handling things.
Scott said, “Well, the Biden Administration continues to tell the American people, ‘Believe what we say and not what you see with your own eyes.’ I’ve had an opportunity already to speak with law enforcement and they tell me that the surge continues. I will meet after we leave the border right now with community leaders, and frankly with folks who lost their kids to fentanyl.”
He continued, “The devastation that we are experiencing as Americans is preventable. Much of it is preventable if we finish the wall, use technology, fire Joe Biden and hire me. I will be the president that finishes the wall, and takes seriously the opportunity to save tens of thousands of Americans from the drug of fentanyl.”
As a refresher, Donald Trump first made his call to build a wall at the country’s southern border as a key aspect in his 2016 presidential campaign. After President Biden dominated Trump in the 2020 race, Biden’s administration reduced border wall funding and stopped construction of new segments of the wall.
Last year, before Trump announced his plans to run for reelection in the 2024 race, he said that he would make the completion of the border wall a top priority once he got back into the Oval Office.
