A popular Tiktoker known for his adventures in Thailand was sentenced to two months in jail after apparently filming himself punching through a bamboo fence.

Tom Birchy, known as “Your man in Thailand,” shared with his 400,000 followers about the events that led up to his arrest and sentencing. While exploring the country in December, Birchy reportedly punched the bamboo fence and was arrested shortly after. In a video posted on May 2, 2024, Birchy explained that he pleaded guilty to criminal mischief and was initially sentenced to two months in prison but was suspended. “I went to the Thai court, and I already pleaded guilty, so it was a pretty quick thing. Just to save time and energy because there was a video of me punching through this bamboo fence,” he said.
Birchy was also fined by the court for the crime and received praise from his followers for taking accountability for his actions.The suspended sentence requires Birchy to avoid any further legal troubles for the next two months. Failure to adhere to the court order could result in him serving the original two-month sentence in addition to any penalties for new offenses as reported by Dexerto.

According to Section 359 of the Thai Criminal Code, special mischief circumstances can increase punishment for property damage used for public benefit. The primary legislation for mischief, Sections 358-361, states that whoever damages, destroys, or diminishes the value of another person’s property commits the crime and faces imprisonment for up to three years and/ or a fine of up to 6,000 baht.
