Notorious for his trash-talking, the all-time leader in tour wins in the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) pulled the prank off after launching a 323-yard drive down the ninth hole at the Riviera Country Club in the Pacific Palisades. Thomas’ drive immediately following Woods’ fell visibly short by 20 or so yards, give or take.
Thomas previously bested Woods years ago at a PGA Tour event in 2014 when he beat Tiger in a playoff at the Quicken Loans National.

While the pair were walking to retrieve their balls, Woods handed Thomas a Tapmax-branded tampon, which the Kentucky native quickly dropped on the green after realizing what was in his hand. Both appeared to share a laugh over the seemingly harmless move, and Woods even went on to praise Thomas, and No. 1 ranked PGA Tour golfer Rory McIlroy after the trio all sank birdies on the 18th hole at the course.

The Genesis Invitational serves as Woods’ return to the PGA Tour after several months of physical rehab for an ankle injury that has required multiple surgeries. Woods spoke to ESPN following his strong finish to round one of the tournament, breaking down the ever-evolving status of his injury and how he’s adjusting to it.
“My ankle’s a lot smaller than it has been. I’ve had so many surgeries that the ankle just keeps changing, the leg keeps changing,” Woods said. “Yes, the shoes keep changing, the socks keep changing. Everything’s a moving target. How much I’m on my feet, how much I’m not, how active I am, how not active, the muscles that are on, they’re off. It’s a moving target all the time.”
Woods, Thomas and McIlroy are all among the group of highly-skilled PGA golfers competing for the massive $20 million purse attached to the tournament. Woods finished the first round with three birdies on the final three holes, shooting two-under 69 on the 18-hole course. Woods is currently five shots behind co-leaders Max Homa and Keith Mitchell on the Genesis Invitational leaderboard.
Woods, who is hosting the event for his TGR Foundation, competed in just three major PGA tour events last year after injuring his leg during a car crash in 2021. He previously finished in 47th place in the Masters last season.

While it’s been seven months since he last competed, Woods believes he still has a chance to win the tournament, which he cites as his motivation to continue playing.
“That’s the only reason why I tee it up,” Woods said.
Of the 80 PGA Tour events Woods has won, 15 of those wins were major championships including the 2019 Masters Tournament title he won by one stroke over competitors Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson. Additionally, Woods is one of three golfers to have won the Masters Tournament five times.
