Tiffany Haddish Tearfully Recalls Homelessness As She And ‘Rich Friends’ Spend Nearly $100K Buying Groceries For California Wildfire Survivors Months After Eaton Fire

While tearfully recalling being homeless, Tiffany Haddish donated hugs and nearly $100,000 in groceries while supporting January’s California Wildfire survivors, specifically those of the Eaton Fire.

Eaton Fire Blazes For 24 Days And Ravages Across 14,021 Acres In Altadena And Pasadena

The fire was reported on January 7, 2025 around 6:18 p.m. It remained active for 24 days and ravaged across 14,021 acres. Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters officially contained the Eaton wildfire on January 31, 2025.

As of May 20, the cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to CalFire’s official website. However, several news reports and lawsuits blame electrical utility Southern California Edison (SCE). The reports and lawsuit have put focus on the possible involvement of high tension power lines operated by SCE.

Tiffany Haddish Buys $100K+ Worth Of Groceries For Eaton Fire Survivors

On Friday afternoon (August 8) comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish covered grocery bills for hundreds of people affected by the wildfire in Altadena and Pasadena, plus others. She covered up to $150 in groceries per person affected by the devastating fire.

The ‘Girls Trip’ star organized a giveaway for survivors of the Eaton Fire, as well as anyone else in need. The giveaway, held at Super King Market, ran from noon to 4 p.m. While speaking with KTLA‘s Samantha Cortese, Haddish said, “I called every rich friend to help me.”

Among those rich, celebrity friends, Haddish, tagged in actress, Nia Long, actor Leonardo DiCaprio, and comedian and actor D.L. Hughley. Haddish also jokingly mentioned a pledge from fellow comedian and actor Kevin Hart. She said, “[He] said he’s gonna send some money, but he ain’t saying nothing yet.”

She also called upon businessman Stephen Cloobeck, founder and former CEO of Diamond Resorts, who is currently running for California governor. Together, Haddish and her rich friends dropped nearly $100,000 in groceries for the Altadena community affected by January’s Eaton Fire.

Speaking with KTLA, Cloobeck said, “It’s an affordability crisis, and we’ve got to let everyone know it’s real. It’s real. California is not affordable, livable, or workable, and we’re showing everyone this is real. And we got to do it together. We’ve got to fix what’s broken here.”

While giving back, Haddish also tearfully reflected on her days of being homeless and without food. She said:

“I know how hard it is to feed a family, the stress of it, and the cost for food today is ridiculous. It makes me so mad. I’m a human being, and I need to eat too, and I like to buy my own food, and I’ll pay for everybody in line behind me.”
