Tiffany Haddish is speaking out and handling recent comments from fellow comedian Mo’Nique with grace and respect. In an interview with ET, Haddish shared that she has been focusing on her comedy shows, resting, and catching up with friends. She also mentioned that she has been taking a new angle with her comedy, being more honest and straightforward.

Despite the jabs that were recently directed at her, Haddish remains that she won’t go below the belt. The jabs in question stem from Mo’Nique’s recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay YouTube show and podcast. Throughout the interview, Mo’Nique expressed her grievances against several of her peers, including Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, and D.L. Hughley.

Mo’Nique specifically called out Haddish for a remark she made in 2018 about Mo’Nique’s husband and manager, Sidney Hicks. Haddish addressed Mo’Nique’s call for a Netflix boycott in 2018, stating that her business runs differently and that she sees the opportunities Netflix has provided for black females in comedy. During Shannon’s show, Monique shot back at those comments by taking jabs at Haddish’s arrest record. “When I saw that, it’s like, Tiffany, if you had a husband like mine, you may not have two DUIs,” she said while speaking with Sharpe. “If you had a husband like mine, you may not be caught up in what looks like you could have been grooming a child.” In response to that, Haddish told ET, “You know how we do… I was like, ‘Oh dang, I’ve been on your mind and I didn’t even know I was on your mind!’ So, I’m grateful,” she said of the situation. Haddish also said that she wasn’t disappointed by Mo’Noque as she viewed it as “an auntie talking.” The “Girls Trip” star added,

“She’s not my friend, so I get it, you know. I’m not close to her, we never had a conversation about that, so at the end of the day, I understand and I respect her,” she added. “I do have respect for her and that’s it.”

When asked if she would jab back at Mo’Nique, Haddish stated that she prefers to handle conversations face-to-face. She emphasized her preference for direct communication and mentioned that she doesn’t need to involve the whole world in her personal problems.

“I’d rather not do anything behind anybody’s back; I’d rather do it to your face. I come from the 1900s, we talk to your face,” she quipped. “If I got a problem with you, I tell you to your face. I’m 100 with it. Everybody that I have a problem with, they know I have a problem with [them] and not the whole world. It ain’t the whole world’s business. I got a problem with you, Imma tell you. Imma call you. Imma show up to your spot. You gonna know. I don’t need to tell the whole wide world.”

Mo’Nique filed a lawsuit in November 2019, claiming racial and gender discrimination against Netflix. The lawsuit alleged that Netflix offered significantly less money to Mo’Nique compared to non-black female comedians. Three years later, Mo’Nique and Netflix agreed to dismiss the suit.

While that has been settled, it looks Tiffany Haddish is open to settling her little feud with Mo’Nique’s as she’s ultimately taking this lates jab with grace and respect… while choosing to handle conflicts in a direct and personal manner.
