Three men, including a 14-year-old, have been arrested for kidnapping 7-year-old Milwaukee boy Jamal White and holding him for $100,000 ransom from mother and father. It’s also reported that one suspect claimed the initial plan was to rob the child’s mother, who is an alleged known drug dealer.
7-Year-Old Milwaukee Boy Jamal White Abducted At Gunpoint And Rescued Within 24 Hours
As we previously shared, Jamal White was abducted on July 11. Doorbell camera footage from the neighborhood where the boy had been last since was shared with police. The footage also went viral as authorities issued a nationwide Amber Alert for the child.
On the video, White was seen riding his bicycle as his father, Jamal White, Sr., drove a sedan alongside him. Meanwhile, a white Jeep Renegade was also seen, matching police description of the suspects’ vehicle. As Jamal Sr. entered the driveway, the white Jeep blocked him in. Two masked men exit the Jeep at the same time.
The driver, who appeared to be holding a gun, chased the boy’s father, who ran into the house. The man in the passenger seat went after the child, who ran up the driveway. Seconds later, the first man ran back into the frame and hopped back in the Jeep. The second man entered the frame next, running back with the boy in his arms. After putting him in the SUV, the suspects fled the scene.
Five hours later, police issued a nationwide Amber Alert. Within 24 hours, police recovered the boy in a home near North 39th and West Lloyd streets around 6 p.m. He was found seven miles away from where he was abducted. After being temporarily placed in the custody of Child Protective Services, Baby Jamal was reunited with his family.
Three Men Arrested For Kidnapping 7-Year-Old Milwaukee Boy Jamal White; His Uncle And Mother Also Arrested For Separate Crimes
In the aftermath of Jamal White’s rescue, police have arrested several people. We’ve previously shared that the Milwaukee boy’s uncle, Jamel White, 27, was arrested for firing several shots at a slow-moving car a day after the boy was abducted. He is charged with two counts of recklessly endangering safety and use of a dangerous weapon. He was given a $20,000 cash bond.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by WISN 12 News, Jamel told police he shot at the car because “he was scared for his family and he hid the gun behind the house in a wooded area.” Investigators say a father and son were in the car, but were not hit. They were trying to help find the boy. Meanwhile, his mother, Shavon Williams, was arrested, with “charges pending” and a $100,000 bond.
On July 17, police said they arrested a 38-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy in relation to the abduction. It was then learned that 25-year-old man Corey Williams was also arrested in connection to the kidnapping. He is being charged as a party to the crime of kidnapping with intent to transfer property, taking hostages, and contributing to the delinquency of a child.
Corey’s last charge relates to him begin an alleged accomplice to the 14-year-old kidnapping suspect. Police accuse Corey of intentionally encouraging or contributing to the 14-year-old’s alleged felony offenses. At this time, it’s not clear if the teen will be tried as an adult or face charges in juvenile court. Meanwhile, if Corey is convicted on the three felony charges, he faces a combined maximum sentence exceeding 100 years in prison.
Jamal White Abduction Update: Suspect Claims Initial Plan Was To Rob Boy’s Mother—An Alleged Known Drug Dealer
It’s now learned that a July 17 criminal complaint against Corey Williams, Jamal White’s father, Jamal Sr., identified Corey as the man who drove the car in the abduction. In the same complaint, Corey accuses Baby Jamal’s mother, Shavon Williams, of being an alleged, well-known, drug dealer and that she was the initial target in the robbery gone awry.
Corey told police that he was contacted by the 14-year-old suspect who wanted to rob Shavon at gunpoint. Corey borrowed the white Jeep to drive to her home on July 11. However, she never showed up, resulting in Williams and two suspects driving to Jamal Sr.’s home instead. Corey Williams said once Baby Jamal was in the car, the plans changed. The suspects contacted Shavon that night and demanded a $100,000 ransom, plus jewelry, in exchange for her son.
They offered to conduct the swap at a nearby park, but Shavon never showed up. When they learned of the Amber Alert, Corey said the three suspects considered harming the child “to show they were serious.” However, they ultimately opted against it.
