Theodore Lumpkin Jr. Of The Tuskegee Airmen Passes Away At 100 Due To COVID-19 Complications

Theodore Lumpkin Jr., one of the members of the heroic Tuskegee Airmen, has passed away due to complications of the coronavirus.

The news was confirmed by Los Angeles City College who said Lumpkin died on December 26, days before his 101st birthday. Although he wasn’t a pilot during World War II, he served as an intelligence officer who discussed missions with pilots during briefings after he was drafted in 1942 as reported by The Grio.  

After serving in the war, he attended the University of California where he graduated with a degree in sociology and started his career as a social worker.

He was also awarded along with his fellow Tuskeegee Airmen with the Congressional Gold Medal and attended Barack Obama’s presidential inauguration in 2009.
