The View’s Joy Behar Receives Mixed Reactions After Telling People To “Come Out” On Thanksgiving Day

A clip from a pre–Turkey Day episode of The View is making its rounds online.

The panelist was in the middle of advocating for bringing politics and religion to the dinner table this year during the holidays, when co-host Joy Behar made an interesting suggestion.

She said, “Everybody out there, come out to your family this Thanksgiving. Just come out!” My personal, inner-monologue response? Like, OKAY YAS JOY — BRB, COMING OUT QWEEN! Whoopi Goldberg asked, “Come out … the door?” No, Behar clarified. “Come out …” Joy Behar began, “come out as gay!”

Those who caught wind of the clip shared their reactions. One Twitter user said, LGBTees pls do not listen to Joy Behar and come out to your families today if you’re not ready or don’t feel safe to do so. Another added, @JoyVBehar It’s incredibly dangerous to be telling people to come out to their families just to “see what happens”. Many of our fellow community members face real threats to their lives if they come out to family. If you haven’t been in this situation, don’t give us advice. A third however said, “Good advice from Joy. Life is too short. Be happy. Be yourself. Come out if you feel safe and ready to do so. Thank you, @JoyVBehar ‼️🏳️‍🌈🌈
