US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price gave the update this Wednesday while appearing on CNN. He said, “Within the last couple hours an official from our Embassy has been granted consular access to Britney Griner.” Price added, “We were able to check on her condition and we will continue to work very closely with her legal team … to see to it that she is treated fairly,” he added. Price also noted that she is in “good condition.”

As we previously reported, Griner was detained in a Moscow airport on February 17 when agents at Sheremetyevo Airport allegedly found vape cartridges containing hashish oil in her luggage — an offense punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

A Moscow court last week extended the arrest of Griner until May 19, according to Russian news agency TASS. Her legal team has had access to her and been able to see her several times a week throughout her detention in Russia. The investigation is ongoing and a trial date has not been set.
