For the ninth episode of REVOLT’s “The Jason Lee Show,” Amanda Seales joins HU Founder Jason Lee for a two-hour-long interview as the comedian and actress cleared up a number of misconceptions while truthfully sharing her thoughts on things that have recently made her headlines in the press.
Back in October, the 41-year-old caused a stir when she suggested that Halle Bailey should break up with her boyfriend DDG for claiming he didn’t know that racism still existed, which later prompted the rapper to respond by unleashing a fiery clap back aimed at the former talk show host.
Seales also goes on to share her thoughts on Caitlyn Jenner, whom she refers to as an “idiot,” Terry Crews as a “coon,” and explains why Vice President Kamala Harris lost her support when she said that the United States was not a racist country.
The California native also discussed her short-lived stint as a co-host on the now-defunct talk show, “The Real” in 2020, after having served as a frequent guest alongside Adrienne Bailon-Houghton, Jeannie Mai, Loni Love, and Tamera Mowry.
But just six months into her newly-appointed role, Seales announced she was leaving the panel, saying the show had broken her spirit after being told on numerous occasions not to talk about certain topics which she felt were “a betrayal to my people as a person.”
“We have three black women producers and one black guy producer,” she explained at the time of her departure.
“I was like ‘Why are you producing this?’ and she was like, ‘Oh, because so and so assigned it to me,’ and I said, ‘But why would you be producing this? You’re a white woman. You don’t understand what we’re going to be talking about’… I couldn’t stay in a place like that.”
Before discussing her decision to step away from “The Real,” Seales was quizzed on whether her former co-host Loni Love lived up to her reputation that she was an alleged mean girl behind the scenes — a remark which Seales didn’t necessarily seem to deny by simply responding, “Adrienne and Jeannie are my girls” as she took a sip from her drink.
She added that some women in the industry are sometimes considered mean girls because they live in fear — and Seales doesn’t live in fear, telling Lee, “I don’t need to be everyone’s friend; I don’t need approval from all these people; it’s a quality over quantity situation.”
Meanwhile, back in April 2021, VP Kamala Harris caused a stir with her comments that she agreed with Sen. Tim Scott when he said “America is not a racist country” but insisted that the country must speak the truth about the history of racism.
While Lee gave Harris the benefit of the doubt, asking whether she may have spoken in a hypothetical way, Seales begged to differ, arguing that as the VP of the United States, she couldn’t do that on the basis of all the killings and crimes that are being committed against people of color.
“And then we’re not calling it domestic terrorism” when shooters target certain groups over racism, Seales stressed. “We have an entire culture of police that are killing black people and getting away with it because the law says they can.”
“We have a country that was 1000% built on the foundation of racism that now legislators are now trying to pretend didn’t happen and are getting that through and doing it on an education level.”
“You can not, as the second in line, to the highest form of office, make a message on hope. You, in my opinion, particularly as the first Black woman vice president, and who got this man elected — you can’t get in that position and then make such an egregiously false statement.”
During another segment of the episode, Lee surprised Seales with a gift of a Black mermaid, which he jokingly said was sponsored by DDG following his remarks about the actress.
As previously mentioned, DDG went off on Seales in late 2022 after seeing the video response she made to a VLAD TV interview of the rapper acting perplexed to find out racism still existed in America.
At the time, Seales said Bailey should reconsider the relationship and dump her boo for his outrageous comments, which didn’t just upset the HBO star but countless people on social media, who were all curious to know what had made DDG think it was excusable to say what he did about the state of America and the ongoing issue with how race is being handled.
The conversation DDG had on Vlad TV initially stemmed from the backlash his girlfriend received after being cast in Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” which had caused a lot of controversy with some fans saying they weren’t happy with the decision in having a Black woman play the role of Ariel.
The predominant argument which erupted on social media at the time saw people questioning why Bailey would be cast when Ariel is commonly known as a white woman in the animated series and films.
“I didn’t know people was this racist. I didn’t know this was a thing, I thought this s**t was gone already. I thought Martin Luther King [Jr.] canceled that s**t out. This s**t is crazy,” DDG told Vlad.
Upon coming across Seales’ response to the comment about the state of America and racism and how Bailey should call it quits with DDG, he responded with a clap back, writing, “I THOUGHT THAT WAS LAME. I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHO THAT IS, AND THAT’S NOT NO DISRESPECTFUL S**T, I GENUINELY DO NOT KNOW WHO THAT WOMAN IS.”
Seales addressed the situation on the show, making it clear that when she made her video in response to what DDG had said, she was actually making a joke. She also touched on the recent controversy surrounding the pair’s relationship after DDG was accused of being in Rubi Rose’s DMs while he appeared to be going through some relationship problems with Bailey.
“Ultimately, even when you’re a public figure, you really don’t want to have to deal with sh** like this publicly. And people think that because you’re a celebrity, it’s, like, your responsibility to have to deal with things publicly.”
Seales added that seeing Bailey coming up in Hollywood and making these milestone career moves only to be overshadowed and left embarrassed by the scandals surrounding her boyfriend didn’t sit right with her.
“And now everyone’s talking about. I don’t care how strong you are, I don’t care what your support system is… you can feel when everybody’s talking about you, and you want your partner to protect you.”
