Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, aka The Clapback Queen in Congress, is the latest guest to join ‘The Jason Lee Show,’ where she speaks with host Jason Lee about her viral moment with Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, her Abortion Awareness Act, plus her thoughts on Joe Biden, Donald Trump, Project 2025, and Israel.
While sitting down on ‘The Jason Lee Show,’ the Dallas and Tarrant County Democratic Representative not only speaks transparently about her role as a Congresswoman, including the passion pay and strict workplace, but she also breaks down the three different committees on Congress, and her Abortion Awareness Act following the overturn of Roe v. Wade.
In addition to defending Joe President Biden’s age and praising his administration’s achievements, Jasmine Crockett also talks about Donald Trump, whom she claims most ally nations do not like, and breaks down the Project 2025 agenda. Crockett also speaks on the recent defense bill automatically registering men for the draft and talks about foreign affairs, like money going to Israel, and much more.
Jasmine Crockett, who has notoriously gained the nickname of The Clapback Queen in Congress, has had several viral moments, perhaps more than in anyone else in Congress this session. She even adds that she is serving Congress with “idiots” who will say and do crazy things, resulting in her clapping back.

We’ve notably seen this when it came down to Jasmine Crockett going head-to-head with fellow congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene in mid-May. After MTG came for Crockett’s appearance, specifically her false eyelashes, the Texas congresswoman slammed the Georgia congresswoman, claiming she has a “bleached-blonde, bad-built, butch body.”
Recalling Crockett’s comment, host Jason Lee says the Gay community was upset that she used the word “butch,” which has been historically used to refer to masculine-presenting lesbian women. Responding, Crockett says there was no ill-intent for the community when she used the word and that as a civil rights lawyer, she represents everyone, including the Gayborhood members in Dallas, Texas.
When host Jason Lee refers to Jasmine Crockett as The Clapback Queen in Congress, she laughs and insists that she will not be made a mockery of or disrespected. She says, “No, I’m not going to let you say crazy things and let it ride! When someone comes to me with what I consider fighting words, you’re gonna get a fight. To me, you’re attacking me, and you’re attacking other people that look like me. I am literally serving with some idiots that will say and do some crazy things!”
When asked if Marjorie Taylor Greene is racist, Crockett confirms and also shares additional thoughts on her. She further shares that MTG is the 5th largest fundraiser in Congress, but according to polling, she is the most hated. However, Crockett notes that people are willing to give donations regardless, so she’s been raking in the money.
While Jasmine Crockett has had more viral moments than anyone in Congress this session, it’s also her work as an attorney and congresswoman and her work ethic that are the real highlights of her career; thus leading to Jason Lee honoring her with the Social Impact Award at the 4th annual Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards. When asked if being an attorney prepared her for laying out her arguments as a congresswoman, Jasmine Crockett admits, “Absolutely!” She even admits that the Republicans get intimidated by her and all of the other attorneys they claim are mostly on the Democratic side.
Crockett also says that the MAGA trolls call her a DEI hire and that they don’t understand how elections work. The Texas congresswoman also explains that although she’s an attorney, she cannot practice while in Congress. She also admits that she’s on a fixed government income and gets paid $174,000 a year, noting that Congress refuses to write in the COLA for the salary to raise. She admits that she has to pay for her own housing in Washington D.C., in addition to maintaining her home in her district back in Dallas, Texas.
Jasmine Crockett also shares that all of these housing expenses come from her yearly salary and she is not given any stipends. Additionally, she also has to pay taxes, which are way more expensive in D.C., her work home, versus Dallas, her main home. Crockett also shares that at the state level, she was only given a budget of $13,000 a month for herself, staff, and office expenses, subsequently, she didn’t have many employees, if any. But now her budget is $2 million, so she can have a bigger staff. She’s also gone from representing 100,000 people to 770,000 people.
In addition to breaking down all three committees in Congress, Jasmine Crockett talks about the Electoral College, which she says voters complain a lot about. She further claims that democracy isn’t a tangible thing and condemns the people for constantly blaming Democratic politicians for so many things. She says the voters’ disengagement has messed up democracy, especially with Democrats. She advises, “People have to be excited to vote, like with Barack Obama. I’m sick of democrats being blamed for everything that’s going wrong in the country.”
While speaking on Project 2025, Jasmine Crockett insists that it is not good for Black people. She says the fight is not only against Black people, but also against transgender people, and pretty much anyone who is not an old White man. Pivoting to her thoughts on women’s reproductive rights, Jasmine Crockett promotes her Abortion Awareness Act, also sharing that the landmark decision to overturn Roe v. Wade was a decision out of Dallas, Texas, her congressional district, which she cannot believe.
Crockett says lawmakers for the overturn want to give the death penalty to women who get abortions. She says no matter if it’s a little girl, or someone sexually assaulted by their relative, the death penalty is what they’re seeking, no exceptions. She says people can disagree with abortion all they want, but the government is making it a point to control women’s bodies.
When host Jason Lee asks Jasmine Crockett why Vice President Kamala Harris, who is a woman, doesn’t sit at a round table and have real conversations about abortion, the Texas congresswoman says she’s not sure, adding that there’s no rule against it. She further explains that there is a messaging problem and a messenger problem; people love to condemn the message but don’t want to blame the messenger.
Jasmine Crockett also shares her love for President Joe Biden and wishes people knew him on the level she does. She wants people to be okay with disagreeing with a politician and stop expecting perfection from preachers and politicians, as it does not exist. When it comes to the hot topic of President Biden “being too old” to run again, Jasmine Crockett argues that the country has elected old White men forever, look at Ronald Reagan. She says it’s rare that the people will elect a young John F. Kennedy and that most of our presidents have been old, so why are we mad at Biden for being old?

Despite referring to Biden as a “Paw Paw,” Jasmine Crockett adds that his memory is actually way better than hers and that he will speak with her about all of his different life experiences. She says he’s just as quick as Auntie Maxine Waters and Nancy Pelosi, who are all around the same age. Crockett and Lee also briefly talk about Biden and his son Hunter Biden‘s drug addiction and recent conviction.
Jasmine Crockett also praises Joe Biden and his administration for forgiving so many student loans in his term, the most any president has ever done. She says, as a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, she asked her fellow sisters how many people took out student loans and that almost the entire room raised their hands. When asked how many had their loans forgiven, more than a third raised their hand again. Crockett wants more people to speak the good word of having their loans relieved because this administration has done something never done before.
When it comes to gun control, Jasmine Crockett — who isn’t anti-guns as she’s licensed and carries herself — speaks on the mass school shooting in Uvalde, Texas and how before the shooting gun laws were changed in 2021 to allow unlicensed carry. In May 2022, the Uvalde shooting occurred and people highlighted the 2021 law, which allowed the 18-year-old gunman to purchase a gun at 17. Crockett says gun violence is so prevalent now that many exchange students are scared to come to the United States, for fear of being shot, which is why the exchange rate is so low.

Before the end of the interview, Jasmine Crockett also shares her thoughts on money being sent to Israel in their decades-long conflict with Palestine and her thoughts on the automatic draft. Crockett says that she understands the reason the U.S. is constantly sending money to Israel, adding that people usually don’t vote for foreign affairs so most don’t understand.
Crockett says that Americans have failed to open a conversation on foreign affairs, but she encourages voters to start reading why military aid is being sent out. When it comes to foreign affairs, she says Americans spend 1% on foreign affairs, but she wants to know why people aren’t asking where the other 99% is going. Crockett understands that the region in the Israel/Palestine conflict is the most disputed land, but she also condemns the war adding that anyone who is okay with it is off because the loss of innocent lives is not okay anywhere. She also mentions the unspoken conflicts happening in Libya, Sudan, the Congo, and more.
Speaking on the recent defense bill that automatically registers men for the U.S. draft, Jasmine Crockett says it has always been a requirement once men turn 18, it just hasn’t been enforced. In the same breath, she condemns the government for not making it a requirement for men and women to register to vote. While addressing what is next for her, Jasmine Crockett talks about her dreams of becoming the first Black female Texas senator or the first Black female president, which she’s not entirely sure America would be willing to accept just yet, especially a Democrat who is as real and raw as her.
