REVOLT’s “The Jason Lee Show” returns with its tenth episode this week as HU Founder sits down for an interview with NLE Choppa.

Outside of his music career, the “Jumping” rapper sure knows how to keep his name trending on social media, having recently left a lot of people speculating whether he was shooting his shot at Ice Spice after dropping a song that was named after the New Yorker in late 2022.

And while many were quick to assume he was trying to make a move on the “Munch” hitmaker, Choppa, whose real name is Bryson Lashun Potts, admitted that while he and Ice Spice communicated via text, their conversations were strictly about music.

“I got her number. I hit her personally,” Choppa said, leading Lee to make a joke as he followed up, asking whether he ever tried to invite her out to grab a vegan burger together. “Nah,” Choppa responded, adamant that his talks with Ice Spice have only been centered around music; though he did share that ever since she changed her number, the two haven’t been texting one another anymore.

“I don’t text her no more, she, umm, she changed her number, so I watch from a distance. She’s doing a lot of big things,” Choppa shared as he expressed his delight in seeing the 22-year-old make such prominent moves since jumping on the scene with her breakout hit, “Munch” last summer.

When Lee went on to ask Choppa whether he would be open to the idea of dating Ice Spice — suggesting that the pair have their first get-together at Kevin Hart’s Hart House vegan restaurant – Choppa didn’t exactly deny the question. “That’s if she wants to go,” he replied.

While the interview remained relatively light-hearted throughout, the Memphis native felt comfortable enough to shed light on his former battle with depression and how it almost led him to contemplate suicide, thinking that he wasn’t going to make it through 2020.

In a tweet posted to his Twitter in March of that year, he wrote, “Imma kill myself the last day of December 2020. Y’all better enjoy me while y’all can.” Needless to say, fans were deeply worried for Choppa’s well-being when he remarked on social media, with people urging his family and relatives to intervene if his state of mind was already at a point where he didn’t want to live anymore.

While the year 2020 proved to be challenging for many people, mostly due to the Covid pandemic, Lee was curious to know why someone at his age at the time (18) would want to commit suicide and what sparked him to feel so strongly about ending his life.

Choppa shared that he hadn’t been in a good mental state during that period when he wrote the tweet, further adding that he was going through depression that stemmed from his success in the music industry.

“You know, you get introduced to so many different things to a new lifestyle where you kind of lose the purpose, the focus. So, God came back into my life, and he was like, ‘Look at you. You want to come back to dada now, don’t ya?’”

After making some vital changes in his life to get his mental health back on track, Choppa also began dedicating himself to a vegan diet, which consists of only eating foods from compromised plants. Vegan avoid eating any animal products, such as dairy, meat, and eggs, and in some cases even includes cutting out honey. For some people, choosing to go vegan is a dietary choice while others consider it a lifestyle choice. In Choppa’s situation, it appears to be a mixture of both, particularly because of how unhappy he’d been feeling about himself.

“I was at the lowest, lower than low, to where you sink so low that you wake up and you be like, ‘I’m better off not here.’ So when you get to that point and you’re not a quitter, and you’re a fighter, you do whatever you have to do to make sure you get back to your highs. And part of that was switching my lifestyle.”

Aside from going vegan, he also credited praying, meditation, and cutting drugs and toxic friends out of his life to get his life back on track. Going vegan also helped him change his energy and his thought process after being able to cut back on all the things that were damaging him.

“With me just learning the science behind killing an animal, taking an animal’s life and energy doesn’t die, it only transfers,” he told Lee. “Energy that the animal was in is transferred through the meat, through what you eat.”
