‘The Fifth Element’ And ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Actor, Ian Holm Dies At Age 88
The Hollywood world has lost another star. Beloved actor Ian Holm has died at the age of 88. His agent released a statement on his passing, confirming the news to outlets.
A rep for the actor also told Variety that Holm died in hospital on Friday morning. It was said that he had been battling Parkinson’s Disease for a number of years. “It is with great sadness we can confirm that the actor Sir Ian Holm CBE passed away this morning at the age of 88,” his agent said in a statement. He died peacefully in hospital with his family and carer,” he added.

“He was a genius of stage and screen, winning multiple awards and loved by directors, audiences and his colleagues alike. His sparkling wit always accompanied a mischievous twinkle in his eye. Charming, kind, and ferociously talented, we will miss him hugely.” Sir Ian was widely considered one of the greatest British actors. He is remembered fondly across generations as Father Vito Cornelius in “The Fifth Element, and Bilbo Baggins in “The Lord of the Rings” films.

He also appeared as android double agent Ash in Alien and Harold Abrahams’ running coach Sam Mussabini in Chariots Of Fire, The Daily Mail reports.
The actor is survived by his fourth wife, Sophie de Stempel along with five children from previous relationships, as well as his third wife, the actor Penelope Wilton.
