After his estranged wife initially asked for nearly $250,000 a month in child support, ‘The Bodyguard‘ star Kevin Costner has now been ordered by the courts to fork over about $130,000 a month instead.

About a month ago, we learned that the 68-year-old actor’s estranged wife and mother to three of his kids, Christine Baumgartner, 49, was asking for a quarter of a million dollars in monthly child support. And as for spousal support, there was no request for it.

According to Baumgartner, she said that the big figure was actually “less than the amount needed to maintain the children in their accustomed lifestyle;” meanwhile, Costner said she could manage with $52,000 a month.

After back and forth in court — like Costner alleging Baumgartner only wanted more money to fund her personal expenses, like cosmetic surgeries — on Thursday (July 13), a source has now told PEOPLE that she really “only wants to take care of and support her children.” They added, “The divorce is not their fault. She doesn’t want them to suffer, or experience negative life changes because of it.”

And now it looks like the kids — Grace, 13, Hayes, 14, and Cayden, 16 — hopefully won’t have to struggle too much as their mother has been granted to receive more than $129,000 a month in child support from their actor father.

In addition to ordering Costner to fork over the hundreds of thousands in child support, a California Superior Court judge also denied his request to fully settle their child support issues before their November 27 trial date, which will determine if the prenuptial agreement they signed back in 2004 is still valid.

As we previously shared, Baumgartner filed for divorce in May after 18 years of marriage. She cited “irreconcilable differences,” and then both parties filed for joint custody of their three kids.
