Texas Teen Charged With Capital Murder In Death of 4-Year-Old Kidnapped From Crib & Found In Street
Darriynn Brown, the Texas teen who was arrested in connection to the death of a 4-year-old boy, has been charged with capital murder. In May, we shared that 18-year-old Brown kidnapped Cash Gernon while he was sleeping in his crib, and later dumped his lifeless body on a street around 5 a.m. A few hours later, a jogger discovered Gernon without a shirt and shoes, and his body covered with multiple stab wounds.
Since his arrest by Dallas Police, Brown’s charges (kidnapping and theft) have now been upgraded to capital murder. On Wednesday June 9), the Dallas PD statement read, “Evidence submitted to the lab has been returned linking Darriynn Brown to Cash Gernon at the time of his death.”

A police spokesman has also stated that they believe Brown was familiar with the people who lived in Cash’s home. However, Gernon’s mother said that she did not know Gernon’s kidnapper and they had no connections. Brown is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail without bond on his upgraded capital murder charge — which in the state of Texas carries an automatic sentence of either life in prison or the death penalty.
