A Fort Worth mother of four is being evicted after she fatally shot a teen intruder who broke into her home last week.

A’leah Wallace, a mother of four, shot and killed a 14-year-old boy, Devin Baker, who attempted to break into her home early on December 14th. Wallace, living in subsidized housing, had experienced four break-ins, prompting her to acquire a gun for protection. On that fateful morning, after calling 911 and having a police visit, she confronted Devin at her daughter’s bedroom window, fearing for her family’s safety.
“I was cleaning my living room sweeping my floor, and I heard my window start going back up. So I went, and I stood in the hallway. And I could see him standing at the window, lifting it up. I just shot,” she explained to FOX 4. “It’s bothering me that he was a kid,” Wallace continued.

The incident occurred minutes after Wallace contacted police about a home invasion attempt.
While the police have not pressed charges against Wallace and have referred the case to a grand jury, the incident raises important questions about self-defense and the rights of individuals to protect themselves and their families. The circumstances surrounding the shooting will be carefully examined to determine whether it falls within the bounds of self-defense laws. The apartment complex’s decision to evict her has sparked debate on social media as she has had previous incidents of individuals attempting to break into her home.
Another user wrote, “Yea.. this needs to go to court… HB 302 “tenants of a residential unit (apartment, condominium, and manufactured housing) have the right to lawfully possess firearms and ammunition in those locations.” A GoFundMe page was also created to help Wallace with her housing expenses and other fees to support her family. So far, the page has raised $4,000 out of the $50,000 goal.
“This situation alone has been very traumatic for my family, but in addition to this, I have been evicted from my apartment for exercising my second amendment rights. We would appreciate any assistance that you would be able to provide us with to obtain a fresh start in a new home. Thank you for your kind consideration,” she wrote on the page.
