Texas Mother and Daughter Killed By Carbon Monoxide Poisoning After Leaving Car Running For Warmth

A young mother and daughter have sadly passed away after leaving their car running in their garage so that they could warm up. The pair died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

ABC7 reports that the mother had been on the phone with a family member when she suddenly stopped talking and they called authorities to do a welfare check. Police found the woman deceased and the child dead in the condo.

“Initial indications are that (a) car was running in the attached garage to create heat as the power is out,” police wrote in a tweet. “Cars, grills and generators should not be used in or near a building.”

Texas is currently experiencing freezing cold weather, with power loss, lack of food and heat.

“It’s a very difficult time. A lot of people are without power,” Lt. Larry Crowson added. “I know it’s cold, but you’ve got to be careful about using generators or cars inside a garage, or any type of fire, grill or charcoal grill. Carbon monoxide is odorless and can kill people very easily.”
