Francisco Oropeza made headlines over the weekend when he reportedly shot his neighbors after they complained about making too much noise while their baby was sleeping. Before the horrific event, Oropeza reportedly told them, “I’ll do what I want in my front yard.” The Cleveland resident allegedly used an AR-15 rifle while intoxicated with drugs or alcohol and entered his neighbor’s home.
Authorities said ten people were in the home when Oropeza started shooting, and five were killed at close range. Three children were found in the home without any injuries, and the women used their bodies to shield them.

A judge issued a warrant for Oropeza’s arrest, and he ran after the shooting. Investigators believe he fled the country, as reported by TMZ, and the FBI joined the case. Authorities said Oropeza had a previous criminal history of run-ins with the U.S. Immigration Customs and Enforcement. He was deported four times on March 2009, September 2009, January 2012, and July 2016. Previously, Oropesa was convicted of a DWI in Montgomery County in January 2012.
Officials said that Oropeza was found in a closet hiding under some laundry. He will be charged with five counts of murder, and the bond was set for $5 million.
“He is behind bars, and he will live his life behind bars,” San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers said during a press conference Tuesday evening. Investigators said they received a tip at 5:15 p.m., and he was apprehended around 6:30 p.m. by the U.S. Marshalls Office, Texas DPS, and BORTAC agents.
Capers added that Oropeza was injured during the arrest and he was transferred from the Montgomery County Jail to San Jacinto County Jail.
