Texas Lt. Gov Dan Patrick On Reopening The Economy: ‘There Are More Important Things Than Living’

Just last month, Texas Lt. Gov Dan Patrick was heavily criticized for suggesting in an interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson that he and other senior citizens might be willing to die to save the economy. While catching up with the Lieutenant Gov. on Monday, Patrick stood by his statements in a new interview with Carlson, saying, “We are crushing the economy.”

“And what I said when I was with you that night, there are more important things than living. And that’s saving this country for my children and my grandchildren and saving this country for all of us,” Patrick said Monday night. Patrick went on to clarify that he didn’t want to die but that “we’ve got to take some risks and get back in the game and get this country back up and running,” NBC News quotes.

As many are aware, despite the growing spread of the novel coronavirus, Texas is among a number of states that are planning to reopen in the coming days.

So far, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp granted businesses across the state permission to reopen later this week, while South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster gave permission for many retail businesses to reopen on Monday.
