Texas Governor Threatens Fines for Local Officials Who Force Mask Mandates
Texas Governor Greg Abbott is not here for officials who will be enforcing mask mandates or vaccinations and is even threatening to use fines for those who try him!
“Texans have mastered the safe practices that help to prevent and avoid the spread of COVID-19. They have the individual right and responsibility to decide for themselves and their children whether they will wear masks, open their businesses, and engage in leisure activities,” Abbott said in a statement.
NBC NEWS reports that On Thursday the Governor issues an executive order (Executive Order GA-38) that citizens should continue to follow safety rules in high transmission areas, but government entities like schools, etc. cannot enforce mask mandates, and they cannot “compel any individual to receive a COVID-19 vaccine administered under an emergency use authorization.” Any entity in violation can face a $1,000 fine.

In addition, Abbott also issued a blanket suspension of “any other statute invoked by any local governmental entity or official in support of a face-covering requirement.”
As we reported, the CDC recently recommended that masks be worn indoors regardless of vaccination status as transmission rates have increased.
