Texas Gop Leaders Pressure Museum To Cancel Book Event Examining Slavery’s Role In Battle Of The Alamo

GOP leaders in Texas went out of their way to pressure a museum t cncek an event being held to promote a book that explored the role slavery played in the Battle of the Alamo.

The event was supposed to be held at the Bullock Texas State History Museum on Thursday night, however, it was canceled three and a half hours before it was scheduled.

The authors of “Forget the Alamo,” belive canceling the event is a form of censorship from Republican leaders whenit comes to examining Texas’ racist history.

“The Bullock was receiving increased pressure on social media about hosting the event, as well as to the museum’s board of directors (Gov Abbott being one of them) and decided to pull out as a co-host all together,” Penguin Random House said in a statement.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick took to Twitter to confirm that he requested the event to be canceled.

“As a member of the Preservation Board, I told staff to cancel this event as soon as I found out about it,” he said on Twitter.” This fact-free rewriting of TX history has no place @BullockMuseum.”

One of the authors, Chris Tomlinson, responded,

“Lt. Gov, Dan Patrick takes credit for oppressing free speech and policing thought in Texas,” he wrote. “@BullockMuseum proves it is a propaganda outlet. As for his fact-free comment, well, a dozen people professional historians disagree.”
