Temecia and Rodney Jackson welcomed their daughter Mila with a licensed midwife, Cheryl Edinbyrd, two weeks ago. Shortly after her birth, Mila developed a mild case of jaundice, which resulted in the yellowing of skin and whites of the eyes. Temecia took her to their pediatrician of ten years with her two sons, as reported by Jezebel. However, Edinbyrd advised her to care for Mila at home rather than leave her at the hospital.

Days later, officers from the Dallas Police Department and CPS agents appeared at their door around 5 a.m. and told the couple that the pediatrician reported them, demanding they hand the infant over to CPS. The couple refused, but officers returned hours later to inform them that their daughter was now in the custody of Dallas Child Protective Services.

Their midwife reached out to the pediatrician and informed them that CPS arrived at the couple’s door after he reported them. Additionally, the pediatrician asked Edinbyd for her credentials and informed her that he would leave their care and midwife teams.

Last Tuesday, Rodney was confronted by police officers while walking the family dog, and he refused to let them enter their home. Moments later, he was arrested, and they snatched his keys, using them to enter his home. Mila was removed from the home while Temecia was by herself. The couple still doesn’t have a birth certificate because their daughter wasn’t born in a hospital, and they added that the police didn’t list their names on a search warrant but used a different couple’s name.

The couple has visited the CPS office on multiple occasions and said they’d experienced negative treatment from police officers. Additionally, Mila has developed a yeast infection allegedly untreated by her foster parents, and she’s missing a crucial time to bond with the couple since her birth.

“With the foster parents is where this build-up and irritation [in Mila’s genitals] occurred, and yet you’re sending her back to the same foster family. We just feel helpless in this situation as we wait,”

Edinbyd shared a similar sentiment: Mila must be with her parents.

“This child was being nurtured. This child was being supported. And this child was being loved. And this child was kidnapped.Mila needs to be returned home.”
