Texas 5th-Grader Who Made Masks For Hospital Workers Dies In ATV Accident
The sweet Texas 10-year-old girl who made hand-sewn masks to help a hospital battling the coronavirus pandemic, has sadly died.
According to KTXS, Lexi Brooke Collins — a fifth-grader at Munday Elementary School — was killed Friday in an all-terrain vehicle accident, the news site reported. A candlelight vigil was held Sunday night and Collins’ funeral was scheduled for Monday afternoon.

According to her obituary, little Lexi donated about 100 handmade masks to health care workers at Anson General Hospital in early April. “With the closing of schools the past few weeks, Lexi spent her days between her home and her grandmother’s house. She spent countless hours making much needed facial masks (approximately 100) for the Knox County community and other surrounding counties,” the obituary posted by McCauley-Smith Funeral Home in Munday said. “

Munday City Councilwoman Karen Logan also released a statement on Lexi’s passing:
“Lexi was a remarkable child. She was bright, talented, wise beyond her years, but overall had the most precious spirit I’ve ever known,” said Logan. “She was always smiling.”
As KATU2 notes, the obituary on McCauley-Smith Funeral Home’s Facebook page said any one who attends must wear a face mask, practice social distancing and self quarantine for 14 days afterward.
