Tesla has initiated a voluntary recall of almost 4,000 Cybertrucks due to an issue with the accelerator pedal, following Elon Musk’s recent drop in the ranking of the world’s wealthiest individuals, according to @people.

The Cybertruck recall affects all Model Year 2024 vehicles produced between November 13, 2023, and April 4, 2025, as per a Safety Recall Report issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The NHTSA highlighted that the accelerator pedal’s pad covering could detach under high force and become stuck in the interior trim. The root cause of this issue is attributed to the use of an unapproved lubricant (soap) during the attachment of the pad to the accelerator pedal, resulting in residue formation that diminishes the pad’s retention on the pedal.

The recall was prompted by a TikTok video posted by a Cybertruck owner in California, highlighting a significant problem with the vehicle. Shortly after, there were reports of Tesla delaying certain upcoming deliveries. Jose Martinez, the individual who posted the TikTok video, informed NBC News that his accelerator became stuck while he was driving the vehicle at a nearby drag strip. In his TikTok video, Martinez described how a part of the pedal “slid up” and moved out of position, ultimately getting stuck between the floorboard and a panel. Which resulted in the vehicle continuing to accelerate even though he was not actively pressing the pedal.

Martinez told the news outlet he was able to hit the brake, but “the moment I let go of the brake, it would lurch forward at full throttle again.”

However, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that Tesla was informed of the pedal issue on March 31 through the first report. A second report regarding a separate incident was submitted four days later on April 3.
