Tennessee Proposes Bill That Will Allow A Father to Put A Stop To An Abortion
Tennessee lawmakers have proposed a new bill that will allow a biological father to stop a woman from having an abortion.
The bill was brought by the Republican state Sen. Mark Pody and notes that “[a] person may petition a court with jurisdiction over domestic relations matters to request an injunction to prohibit a woman who is pregnant with the person’s unborn child from obtaining an abortion.”
The couple who are in dispute over the abortion will have to attend court where a judge would decide whether the abortion should proceed.
The father does not have to provide DNA evidence that the child is his but if the woman decides to violate the injunction and get an abortion, “the court may hold the respondent in civil or criminal contempt and punish the respondent in accordance with the law.”
If these bills get passed and are approved by the Tennessee governor, they will go into effect on July 1.
