The incident took place during a gym class where the boy collapsed at the Sports and Medical Science Academy in Hartford early Thursday morning. According to the New York Post, a school nurse performed CPR on the boy until EMTs arrived at the scene and transported him to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. Two other students were also suffering from a fentanyl overdose in another section of the school building.
Investigators said the two students did not lose consciousness and were transported to the same hospital after complaining about dizziness.

Authorities claimed the children may have come in contact with the deadly drug at the same time but it is currently unclear where the drug was ingested. “They are still trying to indicate the source of the drugs. There were multiple additional bags of what we believe was fentanyl found around the school, which again we believe was brought by a student,” said Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin
The school was also evacuated and decontaminated due to different forms of fentanyl being dangerous if airborne.
