Teen Charged In Murder Of His Mother And Three Siblings

A Utah teen who was accused of killing his mother and three siblings is formally charged with murder.

According to Fox 13 Now, 16-year-old Colin Jeffrey Haynie is charged with four counts of aggravated murder, five counts of felony discharge of a firearm with serious bodily injury and one count of attempted aggravated murder. Investigators identified the four victims as Consuelo Alejandra Haynie; Alexis Hanie,15; Mathew Haynie,14; and 12-year-old Maylan Haynie. A probable cause statement released by the Grantsville Police Department states an unidentified woman contacted 911 after Colin confessed to her and Colin’s father that he killed his family while on their way to Mountain West Medical Center.

Investigators also added that Colin shot his father in the leg after arriving at the home around 6:15 p.m.

“A struggle ensued and Colin’s father was hit in the head with an unknown object, causing a laceration. His father said that he told Colin that his mother would be sad if Colin killed him. He said that Colin told him that his mother and other siblings were already dead,” the probable cause statement says. “Colin’s father was able to get the handgun away from him. Colin told his father that his intention was to kill everyone in the house except himself.”

The case will not be heard in juvenile court due to Colin being charged as an adult based on state law as told by Toole County Attorney:

“Under Utah State Law, if you are 16 years of age or older and you have been charged with a crime of aggravated murder or murder, you automatically are a part of the district court,”
