A four-year-old boy was found in the middle of a street after a teen kidnapped him from his home and allegedly fatally stabbed him Saturday morning.

A witness who was jogging in the Moutain Creek neighborhood found the body of four-year-old Cash Gernon around 7 am and authorities say an “edged weapon” was used to fatally harm the child. Gernon’s mother said her son’s kidnapper broke into the home through the back door and took the boy while she was sleeping. She added that she had no connection to the suspect and it is unclear what made him kidnap her son.
Hours after the discovery, Darriynn Brown,18, was arrested on several charges which included kidnapping, and theft. Additional charges will be filed once forensic results are revealed.

Dallas Assistant Police Chief Albert Martinez said during a conference that he believes Gernon was kidnapped and killed around 5 am. His body appeared to have multiple stab wounds and the jogger who discovered his body said he was not wearing shoes and a shirt.
‘It breaks my heart. And now I’m afraid. Now I’m paranoid. Because I don’t know what happened, I don’t know what’s going on. I mean just knowing that someone out there is capable of killing a child, that alone is just unsettling.’
