On Nov. 23, Amanda Zupancic of Cleveland said she was teaching a remote lesson to a student while his mother was present when the robbery occurred. As reported by ABC News, she said she heard her windows shatter from her upstairs office and said she was home alone when the robbery occurred. Her husband and their one-year-old child had left the home 20 minutes earlier and she believes the robber waited for her family to exit the home so he could make the move.
“I was at the top of the stairs. He was struggling with my baby gate. He was coming up, knife in his hand, threatening to kill me. I actually said, ‘Is this happening right now?’ It seemed unrealistic. I was scared.”
Zupancic noted that her student’s parent contacted the police after witnessing the attack.

She added that the robber took her to the master bedroom and forced her to lay on the ground as he stole her wedding rings and watches. After she took him down the stairs so he could steal her wallet and keys, Zupancic released a baby gate so her dogs could attack the robber. Identified as Charles Derosett, he ran out of the home and was apprehended by Transit police then arrested.
Derosett was charged with aggravated assault, robbery, and other unknown charges.
