A West Virginia teacher and her aides have been apprehended after being secretly recorded abusing a female student with autism.

PEOPLE reports former teacher Christina Lester and her aides June Yurish and Kristin Douty were arrested and charged Friday with misdemeanor failure to report abuse and neglect. The three women were arrested months after the six-year-old girl’s mother, Amber Pack, found multiple bruises when she arrived home from school. Pack secretly recorded her daughter, Adri, to determine what was going on during her school day since she is nonverbal and would start crying before entering the school bus.

The Oct.5 recording revealed that Lester, Yurish, and Douty would threaten the students in the classroom and would withhold food as punishment at Berkeley Heights Elementary School.

Pack contacted the police and met with the school’s principal to discuss the recordings. The three former educators denied that they were threatening the students and said they were talking amongst each other. Pack’s lawyer, Ben Salando, said in a statement that administrators told her to destroy the recordings.

“To make matters worse, the assistant superintendent called the assistant principal to tell Pack to destroy the file,”

After prosecutors failed to press charges against the three women, Pack uploaded the recordings on Facebook and filed a lawsuit against the school.
