Teacher Accused Of Grooming 12-Year-Old Student Is Sentenced To 5 Years Probation

Allison Chilton, a Summerville, South Carolina middle school language arts teacher who was accused of grooming a 12-year-old student, has evaded jail and been sentenced to 5 years probation. The initial sentencing included 10 years of probation, but five years were suspended.

In 2017, the 27-year-old former Oakbrook Middle School teacher was first accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student that consisted of sensual messages and kisses. Chilton has since pleaded guilty to charges of criminal solicitation of a minor and third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

The relationship was first discovered by the victim’s father, who found messages sent to his daughter that read, “I want to be your wife” and “I want to hold you,” all attempts he says were used to sexually entice the underage student. It was also revealed that the former teacher open-mouth kissed and fondled the 12-year-old on numerous occasions. Police say the sexual misconduct took place between August and December of 2017, with Chilton formally resigning from the district in 2018, when she was taken into custody.
