Taylor Swift Gifts $13K To 2 Mothers Facing Eviction Amid COVID-19 Pandemic
After learning about these two mothers facing eviction amid the current COVID-19 pandemic, Taylor Swift is stepping and gifting them $13,000 each. In a recent Washington Post article, Shelbie Selewski, a Detroit woman making $200 per week on unemployment, was featured, in addition to a Nashville mother, Nikki Cornwell.
In the article, Selewski’s story was highlighted, stating her being behind on rent and utilities after losing her job in the spring due to the coronavirus crisis, and revealing her raising a daughter born with a collapsed lung right before COVID. To help offset bills, Selewski sold her family’s TV and more, plus, she started a GoFundM, something she “never thought” she’d have to do. On Selewski’s GFM, which has raised more than $22,000 so far, Swift has proved to be the top donor; writing to the message board, “Shelbie, I’m sending you this gift after reading about you in the Washington Post. No one should have to feel the kind of stress that’s been put on you. I hope you and your beautiful family have a great holiday season. Love, Taylor”

Meanwhile, the Nashville singer also matched her donation with Cornwell, who also was behind on her rent as a single mother and COVID-19 survivor. Taylor wrote, “Nikki, I read about you in the Washington Post and thought it was really brave of you to share your story. I’m so sorry for everything you’ve had to go through this year and wanted to send you this gift, from one Nashville girl to another. Love, Taylor.”
