Taxstone Found Guilty Of Manslaughter In Fatal 2016 Shooting At T.I.’s Irving Plaza Concert

Back in May 2016, Taxstone, real name Daryl Campbell, was accused of fatally shooting a man, and injuring three others — this all stemmed from a feud between Taxstone and New York rapper Troy Ave, real name Roland Collins.

Investigators would claim they found Taxstone’s DNA on the murder weapon. The man who lost his life was identified as Troy Ave’s bodyguard, Ronald “Banga” McPhatter.

Troy Ave was also caught on camera firing a weapon, which he claims he used in self-defense. He was later charged with attempted murder. As of 2023, he’s still on bond and facing the charges.

In June 2017, Taxstone pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm as a felon, and receiving a firearm in interstate commerce. At the time, it was reported that he would be facing 20 years in prison, 10 years per charge.

Taxstone, who has been behind bars for nearly seven years, claimed Troy Ave is the real murderer. In January he tweeted, “If you got caught on camera shooting and you got caught with guns in your car don’t lie on me to rid yourself of your mistakes remain these poems and hymns y’all recite and stop acting like d*kes.”

Despite his tweets from behind bars, on Thursday (March 23), a jury found Taxstone guilty of manslaughter in the first degree, two counts of assault in the first degree, one count of assault in the second degree, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

After Taxstone’s conviction, District Attorney Alvin Bragg stated, “In addition to seriously injuring his rival and killing his rival’s bodyguard, Mr. Campbell shot innocent bystanders and put hundreds of other lives at risk. We will vigorously prosecute anyone who commits this type of deadly violence.”

Taxstone is due to be sentenced on April 19.
