Asher said the woman sitting next to him had concerns about finding a tattoo shop at their destination. He asked her if he could do a design on her arm after receiving permission from the flight attendants. The entire situation was recorded and uploaded to his Tiktok page where he wrote, “So I sat next to someone who told me they were stressed about finding a place to get tattooed on their trip.

“Would you let a stranger on your flight tattoo you? #tattoo #bucketlist,” Asher wrote in the caption.
Asher’s followers felt the idea of giving some a tattoo while traveling at 20,000 feet. Since the upload, his video has earned 4 million views, where his followers and other users expressed their thoughts regarding the tattoo. One user wrote, “getting tatted at like 20,000 ft is soooo cool. you’re awesome for doing this!” while another said, “where did you get your tattoo??” “somewhere between Arkansas and California, I’m not sure,” referencing the woman who had the small artwork done.

Another commentator asked if tattoo machines were allowed on carry-on luggage. Still, Asher said his wireless machine didn’t bother the other passengers enjoying their flight. One also expressed concern about the sanitary conditions since commercial airplanes are known to recycle air which can lead to an infection if the woman didn’t properly care for her tattoo afterward.

“No No No No. Idc If you washed your hands, airplanes are one of the most unsanitary places. Besides all the uncleaned surfaces the air is recycled!!! They don’t clean it well in between flights ( they simply don’t have time) and regardless the recycled air recycles so much bacteria.” she wrote.

“Am I to understand I can’t bring 4 oz of toothpaste, but a tattoo gun is allowed on planes? (Still love it tho)”
“With my luck there would be turbulence and I’d end up with “hellp”
“Wait I just unlocked a new thing for my bucket list. My plan is to get a tattoo for every place I go but I’m gonna need one for the plane rides too.”
“As a former flight attendant turned tat artist, you could never get anything clean enough in an airplane for me to not worry about the cleanliness 😂”
“Question: how does the a tattoo machine make it through security but my knitting needles got confiscated lol. Such a fun memory!!”
However, Asher reassured his viewers that the experience still followed the proper protocols regarding prepping and cleaning the freshly done tattoo. “We followed all sanitization protocols including prep, clean up and disposal,” he wrote in the text of the video.
And regarding turbulence, he did have concerns, but things went very smoothly during the session, as reported by Newsweek.

  1. Wow, getting a tattoo at 20,000 feet sounds like quite the adventure! I’m amazed by Asher’s creativity and the courage of the woman who allowed him to give her a tattoo on the flight.

  2. This is a great breakdown of the differences between rotary and coil tattoo machines! Especially the table comparing the features of each machine. As a beginner tattoo artist myself, I’m definitely leaning towards a rotary machine for the reasons you mentioned – lighter weight, quieter operation, and easier to use. I appreciate you mentioning that there’s no single “right” choice, though, and that some artists end up using both machines. I’ll keep that in mind as I develop my skills!
